Comprehensive echocardiographic assessment of diastolic function.

چکیده

It is now recognized that 30% to 50% of patients who have symptomatic congestive heart failure have preserved left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction [1,2]. Abnormalities in diastolic function not only assume a fundamental role in these but also relate to the severity of symptoms and prognosis in all heart failure patients, regardless of the cause [3,4]. Two-dimensional (2D) and Doppler echocardiography are the most important clinical tools available for the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction [5]. Echocardiography is widely available, portable, and biologically safe and is also capable of excluding other important causes of heart failure, such as valvular disease. The recent integration of new Doppler modalities in many cases can establish the specific pathophysiologic abnormalities involved and can provide reasonably accurate quantification. In most cases, a comprehensive integration of clinical data, 2D structural information, and Doppler physiologic data is required to provide a complete evaluation. Diastolic dysfunction may be defined as the inability of the heart to maintain an adequate cardiac output under normal filling pressure [6]. This inability may manifest early as impaired exercise tolerance or as overt leftand right-sided heart failure at rest. There are numerous physiologic parameters that can affect LV diastolic function. These parameters interact to maintain LV filling under relatively low atrial

بررسی اثر کاهش حجم بر روی پارامترهای دیاستولیک اکو کاردیوگرافی در بیماران همودیالیزی

Background: Cardiovascular problems including arterial hypertension, coronary artery diseases, congestive heart failure are prevalent among chronic hemodialyzed patients. Ultrafiltration of hemodialyzed patient's serum, which culminating in intravascular volume reduction, is frequently used during hemodialysis. One of the restrictions of the echocardiographic evaluation of the diastolic heart f...

Echocardiographic Evaluation of left Ventricular Function and Geometry in Pediatric Patients with Kidney Transplantation

Extended abstract Echocardiographic Evaluation of Left Ventricular Function and Geometry in Pediatric Patients with Kidney Transplantation Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an important, leading cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) as well as in renal transplant recipients. Cardiovascular complications become more important in children because of the i...

[Echocardiographic assessment of the left ventricular diastolic function].

Assessment of diastolic function and left ventricular filling pressures in the setting of both normal and reduced systolic function is of major importance particularly in patients with dyspnea. Since multiple echocardiography parameters are used to assess diastolic function each with some limitations, a comprehensive approach should be applied. Transmitral Doppler flow should be evaluated in co...

Echocardiographic assessment of myocardial infarction: comparison of a rat model in two strains

The purpose of this study was to induce myocardial infarction (MI) and compare the echocardiographic parameters and mortality ratio of Lewis inbred and Wistar outbred strain before and after the procedure to help choose the best one for MI studies. In this study MI was induced in 46 Lewis and 34 Wistar by occlusion of left anterior descending artery (LAD). Doppler, two-dimensional (2-D) and 2-D...

The influence of Asthma on Right Ventricular Systolic and Diastolic Function in Children according to Tissue Doppler Echocardiography

Introduction:Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory condition affecting the lower airways among children. Asthma may influence right ventricular (RV) function and patients may develop right ventricular hypertrophy, pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale. The main objective of this study is to determine RV dysfunction in asymptomatic asthmatic children as detected by ti...

Is echocardiographic evaluation of diastolic function useful in determining clinical care? Echocardiographic Evaluation of Diastolic Function Can Be Used to Guide Clinical Care

Systolic function is conveniently (although not always accurately) measured as the ejection fraction (EF), calculated as stroke volume divided by end-diastolic volume.1 The LV EF is easily interpreted. The lower limit of normal is 50%. The lower the EF is, the greater the reduction in systolic function. Diastolic function has been more difficult to evaluate.2 Traditionally, invasive measures of...
